Background

Advances in facial aesthetic products and procedures involving injectable neurotoxins and fillers have resulted in improved outcomes, leading to increasing patient expectations. For these reasons, physician education on these agents with regard to efficacy, dosing, safety, treatment of adverse events, and optimal technique based on individual facial anatomy is of the utmost importance. However, many physicians who desire to enter the field of aesthetic medicine do not receive adequate training to be able to meet patient demands in clinical practice. This educational program, guided by experienced thought leaders in the field of facial aesthetics, was designed to increase and reinforce physician understanding of anatomy, proper patient evaluation to facilitate individualized treatment, optimal injection technique, and the best possible use of available agents to attain optimal patient outcomes and ensure patient safety and satisfaction.

Educational Objectives

Upon proper completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

  • Define and differentiate the onset, duration, dosing, and mechanism of action of injectable dermal fillers and neuromodulators
  • Compare the efficacy and safety of dermal fillers and neuromodulators
  • Identify individualized therapy based on anatomical assessment, muscle mass, and gender
  • Define the optimal injection techniques for injectable dermal fillers and neuromodulators

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of dermatology, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, and otolaryngology resident physicians and physicians participating in facial plastic surgery, ocular plastic surgery, dermatological surgery and cosmetic surgery fellowships.
